Shakti SunFire
Laura Blakeman
Shakti is a glowing star of light bringing love and light to everyone in circular motion. Hoop manipulation is the name of the passion that has this Firedancer at the center of the flower of life. SunFire is a seasoned yogini and yoga teacher, writer, artisan and dancer. A native of Colorado, she has a deep connection to nature and all things outdoors. She tackles challenges and obstacles with likeness to the way she scales the 14,000 ft. peaks of Colorado – head-on and full of relentless positive energy. As a world traveler with a background in Spanish Literature, Shakti sees her place in the world on a macro level – as a citizen of the World and Cosmos first.
She is voting for OBAMA.
Shakti has explored dance as a universal communication but first stepped into the hoop in May 2006 and has not put it down since. To her, all prop manipulation is an exploration of body and mind, an art form that is both freedom and freeing from conventional thought. She values healthy lifestyles, environmental sustainability, and love eternal. Her deeply rooted passion for artistic self-expression vibrates from within; illuminating, constantly seeking interaction and self-discovery. The entire universe breathes when this shooting Star steps up on stage with passion and grace. Her bright fire burns across the cosmos leaving you upbeat and ready for new beginnings. Her goal is to contribute to the raising collective consciousness through live performance art, seeking simultaneously to advance and push the standard in hoop dance by training with poi, double staffs, 3 ball juggling, contact juggling and flags.
Shakti participates in a few other performance groups, Cosmic Fire with her partner Rainbow Michael, and Shakti, her solo-business where she manages her dance and writing career. You can also contact Shakti via email, on Myspace, on Tribe and on Facebook. You can view videos of her in action on her YouTube channel.
She is currently teaching intermediate hoop dance classes at O Dance Studio in North Boulder, Colorado.
